Alternator maintenance

In 2008 we had the pleasure of driving from Mauritania to Mali without an alternator. It is an experience I would not recommend.

So this time around we decided to check that the alternator was in decent condition before setting off. With the expert help of Eirik we have now serviced the alternator. Turns out the alternator was in pretty good condition, but the same can not be said for the wiring. All of the wires were stripped bare in several places; it was just a question of time before something was going to short circuit. We have fitted new wires to the alternator and assembled everything back together, so I just need to jerry rig a special “GM” connector to the new wires before everything should be done.

The bears would like to extend a special help to our hobby mechanic Eirik who is helping us out.
