Changing the outer CV joints on a 1993 Opel/Vauxhall Frontera part 3

As some of you might have registered trough our twitter messages we have had a slight setback in our project to replace the outer CV joints on our car.

Lets take it from the beginning:

When we left the car Thursday night to get some sleep the ball cage from the old outer CV joints were still stuck to the inner CV joint drive shafts. Our plan was to use a three legged extractor from Biltema to pull it of the driveshaft. Around nine on Friday the bears gathered at the workshop and tried to pull of the ball cage, but only succeeded in bending the extractor device (we will try to get a new one under warranty).

Drastic measures had to be taken, so using our old mantra “When everything else fails; More force and bigger tools” it was decided that Atle could have a go at some precision work with the angle grinder. After cutting off the ball cage we discovered that there is a circlip inside it locking it to the shaft and there is no way to loosen this without cutting everything off. But this was when we started to worry, because our new CV joints had no groove for any circlip ring to lock it in place. Furthermore the drive shaft was 5-6mm larger than the hole in our new CV joints.

So currently we are shit out of luck. We are currently crossing our fingers and hoping that that we have jst received the wong ones and that the seller in the UK will be helpful in sorting this out!
